Most retail tattoo numbing products rely on a single agent, typically 4 to 5% lidocaine, made for surface discomfort. Always Numb™ layers three anesthetics: benzocaine for fast surface relief, lidocaine for a reliable core and tetracaine for depth and a longer tail.

Why You Don't Re-Apply
Mid-Session

Once the needle has opened the skin, a topical anesthetic is no longer sitting on intact skin, and absorption becomes harder to predict. The FDA advises against applying topical anesthetics to broken or irritated skin, over large areas, or under plastic wrap and dressings. Plan the session to fit the numbing window instead of topping up.

How Practices Apply It
Before the Stencil

General guidance for licensed providers and the practices they supervise. Always defer to your own protocol and the directions for use.

Screen
Ask about reactions to numbing products. Benzocaine and tetracaine are ester-type anesthetics and lidocaine is an amide; a known sensitivity needs a different plan.

Apply
Cleanse and dry the skin, then apply an even layer to today's section only. Leave it uncovered.

Wait ~15–20 min
Set up the station and finalize the design while the BLT reaches working depth.

Remove & Stencil
Wipe the cream off completely and cleanse before placing the stencil. Residue keeps a stencil from transferring cleanly.
